The COVID-19 pandemic or the corona virus pandemic as we know it for its infamous cause has stirred the world by the catastrophe it has put upon the people and the governments of the individual nations. There has been a complete economy shut down in most of the countries; citizens have been put down under quarantines and there seems no end. The question seems fair. How can something that has created so much chaos be termed as NOVEL? The word novel is relatable to books, but with a virus seems to be a question. Well, the word novel comes from the family of words which are called homonyms. Homonyms are the words that spell the same and are pronounced the same but have different meanings. In the case of COVID-19, the word novel refers to NEW, something that was not discovered previously, and has only been discovered after its outbreak. Hence, NOVEL COVID-19 or “NEWLY DISCOVERED” COVID-19.

It is pretty sure that the virus had originated from the land of China since the first cases were found in China and also the outbreak was later reported to the world firstly by the Chinese officials. There has not been an official declaration that from where and how initially the virus came in contact with the humans. There are suspected cases like bats that are on top of the list for the carriers of the virus, but a few reptile species are also suspected. There have been conspiracy theories that the virus was made in labs and leaked out of those places, but those, for now, are just theories and have no proof or evidence supporting the statements.

As the nations are fighting the battle against corona virus there have been no vaccines that have been developed against the virus. There are a few contenders to be a probable vaccine but as of now, they have been put under the scrutiny of tests to be done before any use on humans. The patients of the virus are for now treated based upon their medical history, USA has on an emergency basis allowed the use of Viral vaccine Remdesivir to treat their patients, while organizations like A&M University have started testing the tuberculosis drug in their fight against the virus.

The COVID-19 virus spread through droplets which are a result of coughing and sneezing by an infected patient. The virus can then be transmitted to other individuals in two ways :

In this way, the droplets can directly land upon you, and in case they are close to your mouth or nose, it can infect you.

b- Indirect way: These droplets can survive on surfaces and clothes for many days. N case someone comes in contact with these surfaces and clothes and puts them around there face, nose, or eyes, the person can get infected.

COVID-19 virus can show its symptoms within 1-14 days after the person has come in contact with the virus.
